Opening
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Hymn
Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin: The blood of Jesus whispers peace within. Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed: To do the will of Jesus,—this is rest.

The reading
Pause in the middle of the day. Read slowly, as if someone were speaking to you.
No Gospel is published for this date.
1 Corinthians 15:54–58
And when this mortality has been clothed with immortality, then the word that was written shall occur: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who has given us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. And so, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and unmovable, abounding always in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not useless in the Lord.

Psalm
Psalm 145 (144):18
Ant. You are near, Lord Jesus. I only have to call.
The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth.
Ant. You are near, Lord Jesus. I only have to call.
Today’s lesson from Jesus
The Good Samaritan
Then Jesus, taking this up, said: “A certain man descended from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he happened upon robbers, who now also plundered him. And inflicting him with wounds, they went away, leaving him behind, half-alive. And it happened that a certain priest was descending along the same way. And seeing him, he passed by. And similarly a Levite, when he was near the place, also saw him, and he passed by. But a certain Samaritan, being on a journey, came near him. And seeing him, he was moved by mercy. And approaching him, he bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. And setting him on his pack animal, he brought him to an inn, and he took care of him. And the next day, he took out two denarii, and he gave them to the proprietor, and he said: ‘Take care of him. And whatever extra you will have spent, I will repay to you at my return.’ Which of these three, does it seem to you, was a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?” Then he said, “The one who acted with mercy toward him.” And Jesus said to him, “Go, and act similarly.”

R. Lord, hear our prayer.
Prayer on Fire intention
In meetings, errands, and unfinished lists, let us not lose the person; hold us present until the work is love.
R. Lord, hear our prayer.
Prayer on Fire intention
We offer this middle of the day: its boredom, its pressure, and its small chances to love. Receive it.
R. Lord, hear our prayer.
Closing
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Christ of the noonday, keep us kind when we are tired. Let this hour not be wasted on irritation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
