Opening

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hymn

This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; His hand the wonders wrought.

The reading

Pause in the middle of the day. Read slowly, as if someone were speaking to you.

No Gospel is published for this date.

Hebrews 4:9–16

And so, there remains a Sabbath of rest for the people of God. For whoever has entered into his rest, the same has also rested from his works, just as God did from his. Therefore, let us hasten to enter into that rest, so that no one may fall into the same example of unbelief. For the Word of God is living and effective: more piercing than any two-edged sword, reaching to the division even between the soul and the spirit, even between the joints and the marrow, and so it discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no created thing that is invisible to his sight. For all things are naked and open to the eyes of him, about whom we are speaking. Therefore, since we have a great High Priest, who has pierced the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, we should hold to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to have compassion on our infirmities, but rather one who was tempted in all things, just as we are, yet without sin. Therefore, let us go forth with confidence toward the throne of grace, so that we may obtain mercy, and find grace, in a helpful time.

Psalm

Psalm 104 (103):24

Ant. All I can see this noon was made by you. Open my eyes to wonder, Lord.

How great are your works, O Lord! You have made all things in wisdom. The earth has been filled with your possessions.

Ant. All I can see this noon was made by you. Open my eyes to wonder, Lord.

Today’s lesson from Jesus

Come to me, all you who labor

Come to me, all you who labor and have been burdened, and I will refresh you. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is sweet and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28–30

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Father, there are those we have not forgiven. Give us the grace to want to, and then the grace to do it. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
