Opening

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hymn

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Thomas Ken (1637–1711); first published 1674. Public domain.

The reading

Pause in the middle of the day. Read slowly, as if someone were speaking to you.

No Gospel is published for this date.

John 14:23–27

Jesus responded and said to him: “If anyone loves me, he shall keep my word. And my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and we will make our dwelling place with him. Whoever does not love me, does not keep not my words. And the word that you have heard is not of me, but it is of the Father who sent me. These things I have spoken to you, while abiding with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will suggest to you everything whatsoever that I have said to you. Peace I leave for you; my Peace I give to you. Not in the way that the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, and let it not fear.

Reflection

What stood out to you, even if you do not know why?

What would you like to tell Jesus?

Silence

Rest here for a minute. Let the reading settle.

Psalm

Psalm 119 (118):50

Ant. Console me where the day has humbled me, Lord. Your word is enough.

This has consoled me in my humiliation, for your word has revived me.

Ant. Console me where the day has humbled me, Lord. Your word is enough.

Today’s lesson from Jesus

Blessed are the peacemakers

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Matthew 5:9

Where do these words meet your day?

Intentions

Add your own personal intentions

  1. Shared by the community

For Mary and Dewey as they begin their life together, may the Holy Spirit be with them and help grow their love for one another through Holy Matrimony.

    R. Lord, hear our prayer.

  2. Prayer on Fire intention

Where we have already failed this day, give a way to begin again before evening, without a speech.

    R. Lord, hear our prayer.

  3. Prayer on Fire intention

In the middle of the day, keep us faithful to the Cross in ordinary work, and kind to the person before us.

    R. Lord, hear our prayer.

Closing

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

God of strength, the morning zeal has thinned. Steady our will, cool our impatience, and keep us kind until the work is done. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
