Opening

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hymn

Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin: The blood of Jesus whispers peace within. Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed: To do the will of Jesus,—this is rest.

The reading

Pause in the middle of the day. Read slowly, as if someone were speaking to you.

No Gospel is published for this date.

Matthew 6:5–15

And when you pray, you should not be like the hypocrites, who love standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets to pray, so that they may be seen by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. But you, when you pray, enter into your room, and having shut the door, pray to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you. And when praying, do not choose many words, as the pagans do. For they think that by their excess of words they might be heeded. Therefore, do not choose to imitate them. For your Father knows what your needs may be, even before you ask him. Therefore, you shall pray in this way: Our Father, who is in heaven: May your name be kept holy. May your kingdom come. May your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth. Give us this day our life-sustaining bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation. But free us from evil. Amen. For if you will forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father also will forgive you your offenses. But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your sins.

Reflection

Is there a line you would like to read again?

What would you like to tell Jesus?

Silence

Rest here for a minute. Let the reading settle.

Psalm

Psalm 40 (39):2

Ant. You hear me while I wait, Lord. Let me wait without despair.

I have waited expectantly for the Lord, and he was attentive to me.

Ant. You hear me while I wait, Lord. Let me wait without despair.

Today’s lesson from Jesus

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Matthew 5:8

Where do these words meet your day?

Intentions

Add your own personal intentions

  1. Shared by the community

For Mary and Dewey as they begin their life together, may the Holy Spirit be with them and help grow their love for one another through Holy Matrimony.

    R. Lord, have mercy.

  2. Prayer on Fire intention

Christ of noonday, stay with all who suffer and all who serve, and do not let us pass love by.

    R. Lord, have mercy.

  3. Prayer on Fire intention

Where we have already failed this day, give a way to begin again before evening, without a speech.

    R. Lord, have mercy.

Closing

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Jesus, you called your friends to come away and rest a while. Teach us to rest in you, and not only from our work. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
