Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

The reading

Pause in the middle of the day. Read slowly, as if someone were speaking to you.

No Gospel is published for this date.

John 14:1–7

“Do not let your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe in me also. In my Father’s house, there are many dwelling places. If there were not, I would have told you. For I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will return again, and then I will take you to myself, so that where I am, you also may be. And you know where I am going. And you know the way.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him: “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. If you had known me, certainly you would also have known my Father. And from now on, you shall know him, and you have seen him.”

Reflection

What stood out to you, even if you do not know why?

What would you like to tell Jesus?

Silence

Rest here for a minute. Let the reading settle.

Psalm

Psalm 28 (27):7

Ant. You have helped me before, Jesus. I trust you to help me again.

The Lord is my helper and my protector. In him, my heart has hoped and I have been helped. And my flesh has flourished again. And from my will, I shall confess to him.

Ant. You have helped me before, Jesus. I trust you to help me again.

Today’s lesson from Jesus

The Father and his two sons

And returning to his senses, he said: ‘How many hired hands in my father’s house have abundant bread, while I perish here in famine! I shall rise up and go to my father, and I will say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am not worthy to be called your son. Make me one of your hired hands.’ And rising up, he went to his father. But while he was still at a distance, his father saw him, and he was moved with compassion, and running to him, he fell upon his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. Now I am not worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants: ‘Quickly! Bring out the best robe, and clothe him with it. And put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here, and kill it. And let us eat and hold a feast. For this son of mine was dead, and has revived; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to feast.

Intentions

Add your own personal intentions

  1. Shared by the community

For Mary and Dewey as they begin their life together, may the Holy Spirit be with them and help grow their love for one another through Holy Matrimony.

    R. Speak, Lord, we are listening.

  2. Prayer on Fire intention

We offer this middle of the day: its boredom, its pressure, and its small chances to love. Receive it.

    R. Speak, Lord, we are listening.

  3. Prayer on Fire intention

Quiet the inner argument. Give peace enough to do the next right thing, and charity enough not to score it.

    R. Speak, Lord, we are listening.

Closing

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Lord Jesus, you are the way we walk and the strength we walk with. Keep us on the road when we are tempted to turn back. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
