Now the day is over, Night is drawing nigh; Shadows of the evening Steal across the sky.

The reading

Set the day down. Let this reading be the last word you hear before you rest.

No Gospel is published for this date.

Luke 2:25–32

And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and God-fearing, awaiting the consolation of Israel. And the Holy Spirit was with him. And he had received an answer from the Holy Spirit: that he would not see his own death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. And he went with the Spirit to the temple. And when the child Jesus was brought in by his parents, in order to act on his behalf according to the custom of the law, he also took him up, into his arms, and he blessed God and said: “Now you may dismiss your servant in peace, O Lord, according to your word. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared before the face of all peoples: the light of revelation to the nations and the glory of your people Israel.”

Reflection

Is there a line you would like to read again?

What would you like to tell Jesus?

Silence

Be quiet for a minute. Let Jesus have the last of the day.

Psalm

Psalm 86 (85):5

Ant. How gentle you are, Jesus. Let your gentleness quiet me tonight.

For you are sweet and mild, Lord, and plentiful in mercy to all who call upon you.

Ant. How gentle you are, Jesus. Let your gentleness quiet me tonight.

Today’s lesson from Jesus

Come to me, all you who labor

Come to me, all you who labor and have been burdened, and I will refresh you. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is sweet and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28–30

Where do these words meet your day?

Intentions

Add your own personal intentions

  1. Shared by the community

For Mary and Dewey as they prepare for their upcoming wedding, may the Holy Spirit be with them and help grow their love for one another through Holy Matrimony.

    R. Lord, hear our prayer.

  2. Prayer on Fire intention

For all who are afraid of tomorrow: a test, a doctor’s news, a hard conversation. Carry them through it.

    R. Lord, hear our prayer.

  3. Prayer on Fire intention

For those who died today, give rest; for those who will wake to grief, give comfort.

    R. Lord, hear our prayer.

Closing

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Lord, we put down our screens, our plans, and our noise. Let silence be a kind of prayer, and speak to us in it. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
