Opening

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hymn

Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home!

Isaac Watts (1674–1748); first published 1719. Public domain.

The reading

Set the day down. Let this reading be the last word you hear before you rest.

No Gospel is published for this date.

Ephesians 2:13–18

But now, in Christ Jesus, you, who were in times past far away, have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace. He made the two into one, by dissolving the intermediate wall of separation, of opposition, by his flesh, emptying the law of commandments by decree, so that he might join these two, in himself, into one new man, making peace and reconciling both to God, in one body, through the cross, destroying this opposition in himself. And upon arriving, he evangelized peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near. For by him, we both have access, in the one Spirit, to the Father.

Reflection

Which word seems to linger?

What would you like to tell Jesus?

Silence

Be quiet for a minute. Let Jesus have the last of the day.

Psalm

Psalm 23 (22):4

Ant. Be with me in the dark, Jesus, in the fears I did not say aloud.

For, even if I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils. For you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they have given me consolation.

Ant. Be with me in the dark, Jesus, in the fears I did not say aloud.

Today’s lesson from Jesus

Blessed are the peacemakers

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Matthew 5:9

Where do these words meet your day?

Intentions

Add your own personal intentions

  1. Shared by the community

For Mary and Dewey as they prepare for their upcoming wedding, may the Holy Spirit be with them and help grow their love for one another through Holy Matrimony.

    R. Lord, hear our prayer.

  2. Prayer on Fire intention

Hold the dying and the sleepless, Lord, and teach us to sleep as those who are kept.

    R. Lord, hear our prayer.

  3. Prayer on Fire intention

If you wake us at dawn, let it be without bitterness. If you wake us in joy, we are already yours.

    R. Lord, hear our prayer.

Closing

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Wash the day from our hearts. Do not let bitterness keep the last watch. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
