The reading
Set the day down. Let this reading be the last word you hear before you rest.
No Gospel is published for this date.
Isaiah 26:1–4
In that day, this canticle will be sung in the land of Judah. Within it will be set the city of our strength: Zion, a savior, a wall with a bulwark. Open the gates, and let the just people who guard the truth enter. The old error has gone away. You will serve peace: peace, for we have hoped in you. You have trusted in the Lord for all eternity, in the Lord God almighty forever.
Reflection
What word or phrase stays with you?
What would you like to tell Jesus?
Silence
Be quiet for a minute. Let Jesus have the last of the day.
Psalm
Psalm 119 (118):62
Ant. If I wake in the night, let my first thought be thanks to you.
I arose in the middle of the night to confess to you, over the judgments of your justification.
Ant. If I wake in the night, let my first thought be thanks to you.
Today’s lesson from Jesus
Do not worry: the birds and the lilies
Consider the birds of the air, how they neither sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much greater value than they are? And which of you, by thinking, is able to add one cubit to his stature? And as for clothing, why are you anxious? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither work nor weave. But I say to you, that not even Solomon, in all his glory, was arrayed like one of these. So if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and cast into the oven tomorrow, how much more will he care for you, O little in faith? Therefore, do not choose to be anxious, saying: ‘What shall we eat, and what shall we drink, and with what shall we be clothed?’
Matthew 6:26–31

Closing
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Father, watch beside the beds we keep. Drive away the fears that visit in the dark, and let your peace be our wall. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
