The reading

Set the day down. Let this reading be the last word you hear before you rest.

No Gospel is published for this date.

2 Corinthians 1:3–7

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation. He consoles us in all our tribulation, so that we too may be able to console those who are in any kind of distress, through the exhortation by which we also are being exhorted by God. For just as the Passion of Christ abounds in us, so also, through Christ, does our consolation abound. So, if we are in tribulation, it is for your exhortation and salvation, or if we are in consolation, it is for your consolation, or if we are exhorted, it is for your exhortation and salvation, which results in the patient endurance of the same passion which we also endure. So may our hope for you be made firm, knowing that, just as you are participants in the suffering, so also shall you be participants in the consolation.

Reflection

What word or phrase stays with you?

What would you like to tell Jesus?

Silence

Be quiet for a minute. Let Jesus have the last of the day.

Psalm

Psalm 134 (133):2

Ant. I lift my hands to you tonight, Lord Jesus, tired as they are. Receive them.

In the nights, lift up your hands in sanctity, and bless the Lord.

Ant. I lift my hands to you tonight, Lord Jesus, tired as they are. Receive them.

Today’s lesson from Jesus

Blessed are those who mourn

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be consoled.

Matthew 5:5

Where do these words meet your day?

Intentions

Add your own personal intentions

  1. Shared by the community

For Mary and Dewey as they begin their life together, may the Holy Spirit be with them and help grow their love for one another through Holy Matrimony.

    R. Lord, have mercy.

  2. Prayer on Fire intention

Teach us to lie down as children of the Father who does not slumber. Guard our sleeping and our waking.

    R. Lord, have mercy.

  3. Prayer on Fire intention

Hold the dying and those who sit with them. Let this night be a passageway of hope, not of terror.

    R. Lord, have mercy.

Closing

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Father, we thank you for what we cannot name from this day. For what was good, make us grateful; for what was hard, make us forgiven. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
