In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The reading

Be still for a moment, and let the day wait. Listen for what Jesus wants to say to you first.

No Gospel is published for this date.

1 Peter 1:3–9

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has regenerated us into a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead: unto an incorruptible and undefiled and unfading inheritance, which is reserved for you in heaven. By the power of God, you are guarded through faith for a salvation which is ready to be revealed in the end time. In this, you should exult, if now, for a brief time, it is necessary to be made sorrowful by various trials, so that the testing of your faith, which is much more precious than gold tested by fire, may be found in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. For though you have not seen him, you love him. In him also, though you do not see him, you now believe. And in believing, you shall exult with an inexpressible and glorious joy, returning with the goal of your faith, the salvation of souls.

Reflection

Is there a word or picture you would like to keep with you?

What would you like to tell Jesus?

Silence

Be still for a minute. You do not have to say anything.

Psalm

Psalm 100 (99):2

Ant. Let my work today be service to you, and let it be glad.

Shout joyfully to God, all the earth. Serve the Lord with rejoicing. Enter into his sight in exultation.

Ant. Let my work today be service to you, and let it be glad.

Today’s lesson from Jesus

The vine and the branches

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, he will take away. And each one that does bear fruit, he will cleanse, so that it may bring forth more fruit. You are clean now, because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. Just as the branch is not able to bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, so also are you unable, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit. For without me, you are able to do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me, he will be cast away, like a branch, and he will wither, and they will gather him and cast him into the fire, and he burns. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, then you may ask for whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. In this, my Father is glorified: that you should bring forth very much fruit and become my disciples.

John 15:1–8

Closing

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Lord Jesus, give us the courage of the first disciples, who left their nets to follow you. Show us what to leave behind today. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
