Opening

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hymn

All hail the power of Jesus’ name! Let angels prostrate fall; Bring forth the royal diadem, And crown him Lord of all!

The reading

Be still for a moment, and let the day wait. Listen for what Jesus wants to say to you first.

No Gospel is published for this date.

1 John 1:5–10

And this is the announcement which we have heard from him, and which we announce to you: that God is light, and in him there is no darkness. If we claim that we have fellowship with him, and yet we walk in darkness, then we are lying and not telling the truth. But if we walk in the light, just as he also is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim that we have no sin, then we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, then he is faithful and just, so as to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all iniquity. If we claim that we have not sinned, then we make him a liar, and his Word is not in us.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my paths.

Ant. Your word, Lord Jesus, is enough light for the next step.

For the hungry and the displaced, that bread and shelter may find them.

    R. Lord, have mercy.

Closing

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Holy Spirit, breathe on the words we have read. Let them take root before the day takes hold of us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
