Opening

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hymn

Alleluia! sing to Jesus! His the scepter, His the throne. Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone. Hark! the songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood. Jesus out of every nation has redeemed us by His blood.

The reading

Be still for a moment, and let the day wait. Listen for what Jesus wants to say to you first.

No Gospel is published for this date.

Isaiah 40:28–31

Do you not know, or have you not heard? The Lord is the eternal God, who has created the limits of the earth. He does not diminish, and he does not struggle. Neither is his wisdom searchable. It is he who gives strength to the weary, and it is he who increases fortitude and strength in those who are failing. Servants will struggle and fail, and young men will fall into infirmity. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will take up wings like eagles. They will run and not struggle. They will walk and not tire.

Reflection

What did you notice as you listened?

What would you like to tell Jesus?

Silence

Be still for a minute. You do not have to say anything.

Psalm

Psalm 5:3

Ant. Lord, I come with few words. Hear what my heart is trying to say.

Attend to the voice of my prayer, my King and my God.

Ant. Lord, I come with few words. Hear what my heart is trying to say.

Today’s lesson from Jesus

The lost sheep

Now tax collectors and sinners were drawing near to him, so that they might listen to him. And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, “This one accepts sinners and eats with them.” And he told this parable to them, saying: “What man among you, who has one hundred sheep, and if he will have lost one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the one whom he had lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he places it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And returning home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them: ‘Congratulate me! For I have found my sheep, which had been lost.’ I say to you, that there will be so much more joy in heaven over one sinner repenting, than over the ninety-nine just, who do not need to repent.

Luke 15:1–7

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

God of mercy, begin this day in us. We do not ask for a perfect record, only a faithful love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
