Opening
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Hymn
Let us with a gladsome mind Praise the Lord, for he is kind; For His mercies shall endure, Ever faithful, ever sure.
John Milton (paraphrase of Psalm 136) (1608–1674); first published 1624. Public domain.
The reading
Be still for a moment, and let the day wait. Listen for what Jesus wants to say to you first.
No Gospel is published for this date.
Zephaniah 3:14–17
Give praise, daughter of Zion. Shout joyfully, Israel. Rejoice and exult with all your heart, daughter of Jerusalem. The Lord has taken away your judgment; he has turned aside your foes. The king of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; you shall no longer fear evil. In that day, it will be said to Jerusalem, “Do not be afraid,” and to Zion, “Do not let your hands be weakened.” The Lord your God is the strength in your midst; he will save. He will rejoice over you with gladness. In his love, he will be silent. He will exult over you with praise.

Psalm
Psalm 103 (102):2
Ant. Remember what he has done for you, my soul, and begin in praise.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his recompenses.
Ant. Remember what he has done for you, my soul, and begin in praise.
Today’s lesson from Jesus
The Father and his two sons
And returning to his senses, he said: ‘How many hired hands in my father’s house have abundant bread, while I perish here in famine! I shall rise up and go to my father, and I will say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am not worthy to be called your son. Make me one of your hired hands.’ And rising up, he went to his father. But while he was still at a distance, his father saw him, and he was moved with compassion, and running to him, he fell upon his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. Now I am not worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants: ‘Quickly! Bring out the best robe, and clothe him with it. And put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here, and kill it. And let us eat and hold a feast. For this son of mine was dead, and has revived; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to feast.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Jesus, light of the world, shine on the places in us we would rather leave dark. Heal what you reveal. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
