Psalm 98 (97):1–3

Psalm

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has performed wonders. His right hand and his holy arm have accomplished salvation. The Lord has made known his salvation. He has revealed his justice in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Antiphon

In the stillness, kindle understanding and love.

First Reading

Romans 8:18–27

Catholic Public Domain Version (public domain)

For I consider that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with that future glory which shall be revealed in us. For the anticipation of the creature anticipates the revelation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to emptiness, not willingly, but for the sake of the One who made it subject, unto hope. For the creature itself shall also be delivered from the servitude of corruption, into the liberty of the glory of the sons of God. For we know that every creature groans inwardly, as if giving birth, even until now; and not only these, but also ourselves, since we hold the first-fruits of the Spirit. For we also groan within ourselves, anticipating our adoption as the sons of God, and the redemption of our body. For we have been saved by hope. But a hope which is seen is not hope. For when a man sees something, why would he hope? But since we hope for what we do not see, we wait with patience. And similarly, the Spirit also helps our weakness. For we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself asks on our behalf with ineffable sighing. And he who examines hearts knows what the Spirit seeks, because he asks on behalf of the saints in accordance with God.

For Mary and Dewey as they prepare for their upcoming wedding, may the Holy Spirit be with them and help grow their love for one another through Holy Matrimony.

R. Lord, hear our prayer.

For this First Light, that praise may be our first work.

R. Lord, hear our prayer.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Closing prayer

Holy Spirit, keep a quiet flame in us when the noise starts. Teach us to work without abandoning prayer. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
