About today

Andrew Dũng-Lạc and 116 companions, Vietnamese martyrs of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, were canonized as a company of bishops, priests, and lay faithful. They would not trample the Cross. The Church keeps their memorial on 24 November as a company, not a single hero. Farmers, mothers, and priests stood in the same confession. Ask today for the Church in Vietnam and for a faith that will not buy safety by denying the Name, whether in a village or in a city.

Original – Prayer on Fire.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Create a clean heart in me, O God. And renew an upright spirit within my inmost being. Do not cast me away from your face; and do not take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and confirm me with an unsurpassed spirit.

First Reading

Revelation 5:9–14

Catholic Public Domain Version (public domain)

And they were singing a new canticle, saying: “O Lord, you are worthy to receive the book and to open its seals, because you were slain and have redeemed us for God, by your blood, from every tribe and language and people and nation. And you have made us into a kingdom and into priests for our God, and we shall reign over the earth.” And I saw, and I heard the voice of many Angels surrounding the throne and the living creatures and the elders, (and their number was thousands of thousands) saying with a great voice: “The Lamb who was slain is worthy to receive power, and divinity, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.” And every creature that is in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and all that is within the sea: I heard them all saying: “To the One sitting upon the throne and to the Lamb be blessing, and honor, and glory, and authority, forever and ever.” And the four living creatures were saying, “Amen.” And the twenty-four elders fell down on their faces, and they adored the One who lives forever and ever.

R. Lord, hear our prayer.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Closing prayer

Lord Jesus, go with us toward the people we will meet. Let no one leave our presence unblessed. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
