About today

Ambrose of Milan (c. 340–397) was acclaimed bishop while yet a catechumen, taught Augustine, and would not yield the Church’s freedom to imperial convenience. Hymn writer and Doctor, he opened the Scriptures in the heart of a city. His memorial on 7 December stands at the door of the Immaculate Conception, a bishop teaching the city to sing what it believes. Ask today for bishops who can say no to power, and for preaching that makes a restless soul begin to rest.

Original – Prayer on Fire.

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening

God, come to my assistance. Lord, make haste to help me.

Psalm I

Antiphon

In the middle of the work, be my rest and my aim.

Psalm 103 (102):1–4

Psalm

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and bless his holy name, all that is within me. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his recompenses. He forgives all your iniquities. He heals all your infirmities. He redeems your life from destruction. He crowns you with mercy and compassion.

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Shared by the community

For Mary and Dewey as they prepare for their upcoming wedding, may the Holy Spirit be with them and help grow their love for one another through Holy Matrimony.

R. Speak, Lord, we are listening.

Quiet the inner argument. Give peace enough to do the next right thing, and charity enough not to score it.

R. Speak, Lord, we are listening.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Closing prayer

Christ of the noonday, keep us kind when we are tired. Let this hour not be wasted on irritation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
