Opening
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Hymn
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; His hand the wonders wrought.

The reading
Pause in the middle of the day. Read slowly, as if someone were speaking to you.
No Gospel is published for this date.
James 5:7–11
Therefore, be patient, brothers, until the advent of the Lord. Consider that the farmer anticipates the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently, until he receives the early and the late rains. Therefore, you too should be patient and should strengthen your hearts. For the advent of the Lord draws near. Brothers, do not complain against one another, so that you may not be judged. Behold, the judge stands before the door. My brothers, consider the Prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of departing from evil, of labor, and of patience. Consider that we beatify those who have endured. You have heard of the patient suffering of Job. And you have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is merciful and compassionate.

Closing
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Lord, in the quiet of this noon, speak again the words we read. Let them be bread for the afternoon. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
