5 Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary

The Sorrowful Mysteries lead us through the Passion of Christ. With Mary we stay near the cross, asking for a share in his redeeming love.

The five mysteries

  1. 1. The Agony in the Garden

    Jesus prays in Gethsemane: “Not my will, but thine be done.”

    Fruit: Contrition · Matthew 26:36–46

  2. 2. The Scourging at the Pillar

    For our healing he is wounded; love accepts the cost of our redemption.

    Fruit: Purity · John 19:1

  3. 3. The Crowning with Thorns

    The King of kings is mocked; yet his kingdom is not of this world.

    Fruit: Moral courage · Matthew 27:27–31

  4. 4. The Carrying of the Cross

    Jesus takes up the cross and walks the way of love to Calvary.

    Fruit: Patience · John 19:16–17

  5. 5. The Crucifixion

    From the cross he gives his mother and his life — “It is finished.”

    Fruit: Perseverance · John 19:18–30
