Opening
Spirit of adoption, remind me that I am a child of God.
Hymn
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee; Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity! Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee, Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see, Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee Perfect in power, in love, and purity. — Reginald Heber (public domain)
Psalmody
Antiphon
Stay with us, Lord, for it is nearly evening.
Psalm
I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains, from whence help will come to me. My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. May he not allow your foot to be moved, and may he not slumber, who guards you. Behold, he who guards Israel will neither sleep, nor slumber.
Psalm 120:1–4 · Catholic Public Domain Version (public domain)
Antiphon
In the evening sacrifice of praise, receive my thanks and my tears.
Reading
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. — John 15:4–5 (Douay-Rheims, public domain)
Reflection
Review the day without harshness. Thank God for three gifts. Ask mercy for one failure. Rest in being a beloved child, not a finished project.
Intercession
For hearts that are tired, bring rest. For hearts that are restless, bring purpose. For hearts that are hard, bring compassion. For the world you love, kindle justice and peace. Lord, hear our prayer.
Closing prayer
Father, I place this hour in your hands. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Silence
If you can, rest in quiet for half a minute before you rise.
